Children's Fantasy Author and Teacher of Transformational Storytelling
I want to tell you something about how I got here, because it matters for understanding what I built and why it works the way it does.
I didn't set out to be a writing teacher. I spent twenty years working as a therapist and healer, sitting with people through the hardest moments of their lives, watching how change actually happens inside a human being. That work gave me something that a writing degree never could: a precise, clinical understanding of how transformation moves through a person. What it requires. What gets in the way of it. And what finally allows it to land.
Alongside that work, I was writing. Quietly, persistently, across two decades, picture books, chapter books, middle grade, six series, twenty-five published titles. Award nominations. An international publishing deal. 100,000 readers worldwide.
And somewhere in the overlap between those two worlds, the therapeutic and the creative, I discovered something that changed everything about how I understood children's books.
The greatest ones aren't just well-crafted. They are psychologically precise. They create specific, invisible shifts in the children who read them. At the centre of this module is a concept I built from scratch, specifically for children's fiction, based on my background in psychology and years of studying what makes stories genuinely transformational for young readers. The Character Transformation Line.
Every character carries a false belief into your story. Not a flaw. Not a weakness. A specific story they tell themselves about who they are or how the world works. And your plot - every single scene, every beat, every moment of pressure - has one job: to move that character from the false belief to the real understanding on the other side.
When you understand this, you never plot the same way again. You stop asking "what happens next?" and start asking "what does this moment do to the thing my character believes?" That shift is permanent. Every book you write from this point forward will be different because of it.
